About Us

The Background:  My first taste of coffee was provided by a jar of instant granules, set to brew by a rivulet of water from an old kettle just off the boil, stirred to life in a fading mug sat upon a time-worn Formica table. Okay, so I’m trying to make it sound romantic but in truth, it was awful. An astringent, sour concoction, pale and weak and stripped by its processing of any body and depth of character the beans may have once held. What it did offer was a hint of what coffee could be. A faint trace of the flavors that might be coaxed from the magical bean when treated with care and intention. And a caffeine kick, to boot. I was hooked.
The Name:  Approaching the end of a career, I chose to pursue my dream to work in the coffee industry, thus, Sleepy Hollow Coffee Roasters was born. The town of Sleepy Hollow, New York is where I grew up and is home to the famous legend by Washington Irving that has been not only a favorite tale, but a kind of temperament permeating the Lower Hudson Valley and its residents for more than two centuries. I have moved about the country, but at heart I am forever a resident of Sleepy Hollow and it seemed a fitting sobriquet for this endeavor.
The Coffee:  We know there are many excellent coffee options available and we’re not trying to replace any of them. Instead, we hope to be an additional resource for excellence on your coffee journey. Coffee lovers we know (ourselves included) enjoy a variety of origins, blends, processing and roasting approaches as well as multiple brew methods to expand and enhance their coffee experience.
