Nyamasheke, Rwanda
The Nyamasheke district in Rwanda enjoys the benefit of unique growing conditions. The cool, humid climates of Lake Kivu and Nyungwe Forest provide ample groundwater throughout the rolling terrain. Kivu's lake bed sits upon the Albertine Rift, slowly being pulled apart, allowing volcanic seepage to enrich the surrounding soils.
Good Coffee, Doing Good
This lot was produced on the Jarama farm of Furaha Umwizey in Nyamasheke. Born and raised in Rwanda, Umwizey’s goal is to achieve sustainable coffee production that positively impacts the local community. His estates employ more than 400 people at harvest time and his two washing stations process coffee from his efforts as well as that of more than 500 smallholders in the region, offering quality premiums and training programs for participating farming families.
Coffee Specifics
This Kivu lot from Jarama consists of local bourbon varieties, grown between 1700 - 1900 meters above sea level (masl). It was picked and processed across March, April, and May of 2025 by the farm’s 200 employees. The beans were fully washed, then dried on raised beds.
